Combos and Transitions with David Owen
$65

Friday January 27th
7-8:30pm

Dancers who are interested in moving similarly to their pole idols must develop an important skill: the ability to keep an aerial sequence moving without having to visit the floor in between poses and sequences. In this workshop, geared toward an intermediate skill level, David will teach you how to put pole holds together into a sequence, and how to keep your sequence moving in one direction around the pole even when performing with a pole on its stationary setting. Students enrolling in this class should already be capable of lifting into an inversion without swinging, leaping, or kicking.

Bending Over Backward

January 28th
10-11:30

Creating spinal extension is a sensitive and intimidating process about which a huge quantity of misinformation abounds. In this workshop you will learn how to perform a variety of exercises to increase range of motion in the shoulders, hip flexors, and the entire spine. With discussion and practicum, you will learn how to use the breath during back bending exercises, what sensations to expect, and guidelines to determine the safety and effectiveness of your practice. Whether you simply wish to have an increase in spinal arch or wish to become a contortionist, this workshop contains information you will find beneficial.

The Aerial Handstands Intensive with David Owen
$65

January 28th
11:45-1:15

In the “Aerial Handstands Intensive” workshop you will learn correct arm placements for safely performing aerial handstand (or inverted arm hold) variations on the pole emphasizing the split grip, true grip, and twisted grip. We will discuss and practice methods of integrating these poses into beautiful, safe, and dance-worthy combinations, as well as strength training methods to help make these poses even more secure and gain more extension. You will learn ways to get into these holds from handsprings, levitations, and from other inverted poses, and how to combo out of them into pole holds instead of returning directly to the floor. Get ready to drop some jaws with the skills you’ll develop in this class! This class is only for dancers who are already able to invert fluently, own solid leg hang poses, and should have some experience practicing inverted arm holds such as the “butterfly” or forearm/elbow grip poses.
